WHITE TOWER
A symbol of Thessaloniki and a reference point for locals and visitors alike, the White Tower stands by the sea in front of the city, reminding us of the old times. During the 19th century it was a prison. Today it is an art and history museum.
SAINT DIMITRIOS
The church of the patron saint of the city is a must-see in Thessaloniki. The first church of Agios Dimitrios was built in 313 AD. and was completely rebuilt in 1948 according to the original plans, since it has been twice destroyed by fire.
ARCH OF GALERIUS AND ROTUNDA
Two of the most characteristic monuments of the city. The Arch of Galerius, or Kamara, is located near the eastern walls of the city. The Rotunda is a cylindrical building from the beginning of the 4th century AD, the only one in Greece. It was once a Pantheon or Mausoleum for the Emperor Galerius. Now it is the church of Agios Georgios. Entrance is free.
LADADIKA
The area from Kountouriotou to Diamanti Street, and from Chiou to Limnou Street is known as Ladadika. Here you can find many bars, restaurants and the Museum of Ancient Greek Musical Instruments and Games.
METEORA AND MOUNT ATHOS
Meteora, was built on natural rocks, is one of the most important complexes of Christian Orthodox monasteries in Greece and is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A center of monasticism in Greece, Mount Athos is located on the third and easternmost peninsula of Halkidiki.
